The best time to resolve sitework questions is before equipment mobilizes. Access, utility information, material handling and drainage all belong in the early scope conversation.

Confirm the limits of work.
Start with a plan, marked exhibit or clear field description of the areas to clear, excavate, grade or demolish. Include the desired finished condition and any boundaries that must be protected.
A scope should also identify what is not included. Clear limits help avoid assumptions about adjacent areas, stockpiles or restoration.
Treat access and material movement as core inputs.
Equipment needs a safe way in, out and through the site. Gate width, driveway condition, overhead constraints, neighboring activity, staging area and truck access can affect the means and sequence of the work.
Material handling matters too. Discuss whether excavated material will remain on site, be relocated, be imported, or require lawful disposal.
Verify utilities and drainage coordination.
Utility locates and available records should be reviewed before excavation. Existing utilities, proposed utility trenches, easements and inspection requirements can affect the work area and sequence.
Grading also needs to support the project’s drainage plan. Where engineering or permitted plans apply, they should be provided and followed.
